At the end of the week, fnatic announced the signing of a contract with Owen "smooya" Butterfield, who announced his departure from Movistar Riders. The British esports player spent about eight months as part of the Brazilian team. His agreement with fnatic remains temporary for now: the contract is for three months with the possibility of extension if smooya’s work in the team turns out to be successful.
As part of fnatic, the Briton will take the place of Jack “Jackinho” Strøm Mattsson, who was sent into inactivation last Saturday after fnatic finished IEM Fall in last place and, as a result, failed to qualify for PGL Major Stockholm. Thus, fnatic continues to build an international roster after some time ago abandoning the idea of using a roster that would include only Swedish players. Since August, in addition to smooya, other Britons have appeared in the team.
In his post about the move to fnatic, the player noted that he had been waiting for such a chance for many years and thanks the team management for believing in him. Butterfield will play his first official match as a member of fnatic next week, at the second stage of the qualifying tournament for IEM Winter.
