The court refused to lift the ban on Jamppi

Litigation in which Finnish player Elias "Jamppi" Olkkonen's attempt to seek compensation from Valve due to what he considers an unfair VAC ban took a new twist this week.

The Jamppi account was banned back in 2015. In March 2020, the player decided to sue Valve, hoping to recover lost profits in the amount of more than $200,000. He believes that the ban prevented him from becoming a member of the professional team OG and closed the opportunity for him to participate in the majors.  In addition to compensation, the player demanded that the ban be lifted.

In addition, Jamppi expected that he would achieve a temporary lifting of the ban now, while the trial was ongoing. On August 20, Valve refused this request. The company believes that temporarily exempting Jamppi from restrictions will send the wrong signal to other players: they will decide that they can use cheats or commit violations, and then, dragging out the legal dispute, continue to participate in competitions, avoiding a ban. Valve representatives also noted that, in fact, restrictions do not prevent Jamppi from performing on the professional stage.

The consideration of the case on its merits will continue. In addition, Jamppi has the opportunity to challenge the court's decision within the next week.
