ESL and DreamHack have published preliminary plans for events to take place in 2021. In total, they expect to hold 8 LAN events – two less than expected before the pandemic — with a total prize fund of $4.5 million. After consulting with teams and players, organizers decided to make significant changes to how tournaments will be scheduled to reduce stress on players and create a more impressive show for spectators.
Previously, ESL and DreamHack tournaments were usually held in one week. The matches will now be spread over two weeks, with a break between the group stage and the playoffs. ESL representatives note that this format will allow viewers to show stories that have remained out of sight due to a busy schedule. In addition, this mode will help teams plan trips better. As a result, the load on the players will be reduced, as they will have more time to rest.
«New vision of ESL Pro Tour CS:GO – “This is part of our mission, our desire to put players and fans at the center of eSports events,” comments one of the representatives of the tournament organizer. – The two-weekend tournament design will allow for maximum excitement and content for spectators, while giving players a more balanced schedule.
