Australia arrests accused of betting on CS GO match-fixing schemes
Australian police have arrested five people accused of betting on fixing CS: GO matches. The games in question took place in a local semi-professional league called the ESEA Mountain Dew League. In March 2019, one of the bookmaking agencies filed a police report in connection with suspicious bets made by several people. During the investigation, which took about a year, the police established that the suspects were directly associated with one of the teams and used information received about the previously known results of matches to place large bets.

As a result, six residents of several Australian cities aged 19 to 27 were arrested. In total, they managed to earn about 30 thousand Australian dollars, which is about 19,000 US dollars, from dishonest bets. To do this, they made at least twenty bets.

Each of those arrested was charged with several cases of betting on match-fixing.  Now they could face up to ten years in prison. Melbourne Police say the trial will take place in Melbourne and Sale in September. It can be expected that with the growing interest in eSports, such cases will occur more often and will require closer monitoring from tournament organizers.
