On Friday, Valve announced its plans to hold Counter Strike tournaments in 2022 and 2021. In particular, the company mentioned that it expects to hold two majors per year – one of them should take place in late spring, and the other – at the end of autumn. Each of these global competitions will be preceded by regional ranking tournaments. Until the end of June, Valve will wait for applications from the organizing companies, and then over the next month it will make a decision on where exactly the majors will be held. Proposals from organizations that want to organize tournaments in 2023 will be accepted until the end of autumn, however, exactly when the selection results will be announced is unknown.
The 2022 Majors are scheduled to take place in late May and early November. Preliminary regional tournaments in each of the five regions will be held in a LAN format. Valve will provide the prize fund and also cover the costs of flights and accommodation for team members.
After a long break due to the coronavirus pandemic, the first return to the usual format should be the PGL Major Stockholm tournament, which will be held from October 23 to November 7. The playoff matches will take place at the Avicii Arena. Rating tournaments, the results of which will determine the list of participating teams, are already being held online.
