The management of the esports organization Virtus.pro made critical comments regarding the sanctions imposed on the team by ESL. On Wednesday, the tournament organizer announced a ban on teams with ties to the Russian government or companies sanctioned by the European Union from participating in events. Thus, Virtus.pro came under restrictions due to its connections with the SOGaz company.
In response to this, Virtus.pro stated that it has no relation to government agencies, which means there is no reason to limit the team’s participation in tournaments. The organization called the incident a characteristic manifestation of “cancel culture,” a consequence of external pressure and prejudice, but, nevertheless, decided not to prohibit its esports athletes from participating in competitions.
According to representatives of Virtus.pro, such a decision would be a response to aggression with aggression, and this is not something that will help find the optimal solution. It would be unfair to devalue the players' efforts and preparation time by depriving them of the opportunity to perform. Thus, the management left the final decision to the players themselves, who have not yet commented on the situation.
