Loading screens are the cheapest cosmetics in Dota 2: a single image shown while a match loads. The catalog holds 73 entries and more than 1 100 listings, priced from ten cents to $29. This is the one category where a genuine collectible costs less than a cup of coffee.
The category splits in two. Regular loading screens are artwork tied to heroes and events: Jingle Fist Loading Screen at nineteen cents, Brood Hunter Loading Screen at about $0.23. Team wallpapers are released for pro seasons: the Team Spirit wallpaper from season 10 starts at about $0.37, while the Gaimin Gladiators version runs about $3.30.
The top of the market belongs to Genuine items, which were granted for outside purchases and are no longer produced: Genuine Mini Heroes Loading Screen at about $29 and Genuine Let's Race Loading Screen at about $15. Roshan's Greed Loading Screen at about $17 and Roshan's Rage Loading Screen at about $12 sit just below them.
Quality: a Genuine copy costs several times what the plain version of the same screen does.
Source: items from closed events and compendiums are never restocked.
Listing depth: team wallpapers run into the hundreds of copies, so their prices barely move.
A loading screen changes nothing in the match, but it is the cheapest way to dress an account in a favorite team or hero. A dollar buys a handful of screens; ten dollars buys a collectible that is no longer in circulation.
