Ever wondered what StatTrak skins are in CS GO? Why do they cost so much more than regular ones with similar parameters and where does such a stir among gamers come from?

How to get StatTrak skin
If classic weapons can be obtained in the game in several ways, and completely free of charge, then a skin with a StatTrak counter can only be obtained in two ways:

Well, let’s say right away that the purchase is profitable in most cases, because it does not depend on randomness. The chance of catching the StatTrak version of the skin you need from the case, even with a low degree of wear, is extremely small, and each attempt costs a lot of money.
What a StatTrak weapon looks like
Many have already heard about these mysterious guns more than once, but have no idea how Star Trek skins (that’s what gamers often call them) differ from regular ones. Visually — only with a counter on the barrel body.

The counter only works when liquidating live players; this number will not work on bots. Otherwise, lovers of large and beautiful numbers would have long ago registered on personal servers to improve statistics.

If you reach the maximum value…
The maximum number that can be shot in GS:GO — 999 999 because the StatTrak meter screen can accommodate up to 6 values. Let's start with the fact that this figure will have to be filled in over the years. You would rather sell the skin on the secondary market than achieve such an indicator.
But since our people are stubborn and can take such a step on principle, we answer: after 999 999 the value is reset to 000 000 and everything starts again. This concerns visual design. In the inventory you can see the real picture of what is happening.
Another thing is that to prove this fact, almost everyone will have to reset the link to the inventory, so no one will really bother with this.
Are your statistics visible to others?
No matter how skilled you are, sooner or later someone from the enemy team will manage to kill you, and at the same time take possession of a machine gun or rifle with a StatTrak counter. And if he wants to look at statistics, or organize his own frag march — nothing will work.
Valve played this moment quite cleverly. If the player does not own the skin, then instead of numbers the message ERROR or UNKNWN USER will be displayed on the screen.
So he won’t be able to show off a screenshot of a top gun, no matter how much he’d like to.
Can the value be transferred to another weapon?
Kill statistics in CS GO are tied not only to a specific weapon, but also to a certain quality (army, consumer goods, secret). If the skins are in different weight categories — the numbers will not be transferred.
The ability to transport a counter is possible under one condition: you have two identical skins of the same rarity. There is even a special item for this purpose — exchanger StatTrak (aka StatTrak Swap Tool).
The item is disposable and is sold within the Steam marketplace.
Why is this necessary? Let's say you have a favorite pistol or machine gun with a rare skin, but in worn quality. And then I turned up exactly the same, but straight from the factory. All that remains is to use the box and make the new gun more interesting while maintaining the statistics. The old one is reset to zero and goes into inventory or for sale.
Dry residue
Generally speaking, the presence of StatTrak is rather decorative. However, the value and cost of the skin increases many times over. In fact, this is a more profitable investment that pays for itself within a few months if you invest wisely in a certain game item.
Is this necessary in the game? The question is open. But the realization that this particular gun is your favorite — a priceless thing.
