To remove a sticker in CS2, open your inventory, select the weapon, choose "Scrape Sticker," and keep clicking the sticker until it is fully worn off; at the last step the game asks you to confirm the removal. A removed sticker cannot be returned to your inventory, it is gone for good. There is no other way to take a sticker off in the game, and it worked exactly the same way in CS:GO.
There are usually three reasons to remove one: it clashes with the skin, the previous owner already scraped it halfway, or you need the slot for a more valuable sticker. "Removing it to keep it" is not an option: stickers are single-use, and that applies even to the rarest ones from ESL, BLAST, PGL and other Majors. For reference, the regular Titan sticker from Katowice 2014 currently sells for about $3,700, and the holo version is listed at around $71,500. Scraping one of those simply destroys that money.
In CS2 a single weapon can hold up to five stickers, placed anywhere, rotated and partly layered over one another; the CS2 sticker alphabet guide shows how players use that to spell words. Stickers do not wear down over time on their own, just like skins: a sticker only looks worn if its owner scraped it.
How to remove a sticker step by step
Stickers often end up on a weapon at random: the previous owner of an AK-47 | Redline or an M4A4 | Neo-Noir slapped on whatever was in the inventory without thinking about the combination. You can clean all of that up yourself:
Open your inventory in CS2 and select the weapon with the sticker.
Choose "Scrape Sticker."
Pick the sticker and click it: every click wears it down a little more.
When the sticker is almost gone, confirm the removal.
A separate menu opens, showing the weapon with the sticker you want to get rid of.
The game warns you right away that the action is irreversible: there is no way to send the sticker back to your inventory.
If you have made up your mind, select the sticker and click it 10 to 15 times. Each click makes the image duller and more worn.

In the last screenshot you can spot an Easter egg: the Roman numeral "9" on the spider's belly. It marks the operation number, since Shattered Web, released in 2019, was the ninth major operation in CS:GO.
And this is what happens if you scrape a sticker almost all the way.
Sometimes a scraped sticker even looks more interesting than the original.
Almost every Shattered Web sticker reveals a second meaning when heavily worn. Many other capsules hide similar details, collected in our article on references and Easter eggs in stickers.
That said, do not start scraping stickers on every weapon you own: some of them are worth tens or hundreds of dollars, sometimes much more. Check the price of a specific sticker on the market before removing it; the article on the most expensive sticker in CS2 shows which ones are valued highest.
The final step, after 10 to 15 clicks, is confirming the removal. The slot on the weapon is then free again, ready for a new paper, holo, glitter or gold sticker from your inventory.
Why you cannot see a sticker on a skin
This question often comes from newcomers who just bought their first skin with stickers already applied. Cheap stickers cost a few cents, so they are usually not factored into the skin's price at all. Some sellers also scrape a sticker heavily before selling: technically it is still on the weapon, but it is barely visible. In game it looks like this.
On a light background a sticker like that is almost invisible. Good examples are the AUG | Akihabara Accept and the M4A1-S | Mecha Industries. It is better to scrape off these leftovers and apply something that fits the style.
The opposite happens too: even bright stickers get lost because the skin itself is very busy. It is hard to find stickers that would look good on the AWP | The Prince, the M4A4 | Player Two or the AK-47 | Legion of Anubis.
Should you apply stickers at all
You now know how stickers are scraped in CS2, but should you apply them in the first place? There are plenty of plain, single-color skins that practically ask for decoration, such as the P250 | Whiteout from the screenshots above. But such "canvases" are not that common, and random stickers often just ruin the look of a weapon.
Imagine putting two or three random stickers on an AWP | Dragon Lore.
The look is ruined instantly, and that is on a skin where even the cheapest Battle-Scarred AWP | Dragon Lore costs about $4,600. Well-chosen combinations, on the other hand, bring a skin out; see examples in our list of the best skin and sticker combos in CS2.
We are not against stickers, we are for using them where they fit. If you own something truly rare, such as Katowice 2014 stickers or stickers from the Boston 2018 Legends Autograph Capsule (the capsule itself now costs about $100), do not rush to apply them, let alone scrape them. Old Major stickers gradually leave circulation, so their prices often rise over time, although there is no guarantee.
