Only 2–3% of gamers are given the right to enter the legal beta test of Valve’s new creation, so the desire of the vast majority of the CS community to learn how to gain access and how to launch CS2 is very understandable.
Basically, at this stage, there are 3 ways to fight in the new Counter-Strike. Firstly, wait for an invite on Steam, but as mentioned above, the chance here is minimal. If you are not satisfied with just sitting and waiting, then the second option is to buy or rent an account with existing access to CS2. The idea, let’s say right away, is not without flaws and pitfalls, which we’ll talk about later. And the third method, if there is no free money, take advantage of the good old torrent distributions and download pirated software.
Method No. 1: Official Invitation
In this case, launching CS2 is as easy as shelling pears. To do this, you need:
Log in to your CS:GO account on Steam.
In the main menu, you will immediately find an invitation. It’s simply impossible not to see it; it’s a large pop-up window that covers almost the entire screen. At the bottom of the invite, look for “Join” (in English "Enroll"), click there.
This is how you activate the download of the second part of Counter-Strike to your device.
After the download is complete, close your Steam and restart it.
Now you have the opportunity to choose: play CS:GO or go to the beta of the second part.
If you chose to play the new version of Counter-Strike, click on “Limited Test”.
Congratulations, you are one of the lucky few who were able to launch CS2 before the summer release.
Method No. 2: Buying or Renting an Account
As you probably know, Valve launched the beta of the second Counter-Strike on March 22, 2023. Immediately, like mushrooms after rain, advertisements began to appear on thematic platforms, offering access to the official beta on a Steam account. The accounts were provided not for free, but for a hefty price. The minimum prices started from $60, and at the maximum — up to $550-600. The price depended on the number of skins transferred, the presence/absence of bans, and rank in the game.
But, as usual, an unpleasant ambush awaited gullible and impatient gamers eager to launch CS2 quickly. There is always a risk that they sold you a pig in a poke — the account could have been compromised (due to cheating, for example), which would likely end in a ban and a loss of money. And the second problem — scammers. The most popular way to deceive gamers was to sell a regular CS:GO account for a high price, with no trace of beta access to CS2.
As for rent, a day of play will cost you $20-30.
Method No. 3: Pirated Version
If you still haven’t received an invitation and don’t want to buy or rent an account to play CS2, then there are numerous torrents at your service, where “craftsmen” already on March 23, 2023 — the day after its release — uploaded a pirated version of CS2.
We warn you right away: we do not support piracy and encourage you to use only legal versions of games. If you launch CS2 in an illegal version, the responsibility will lie entirely with you. The information below is presented for informational purposes only.
In the pirated version, there is no way to connect to the official Valve servers. You can only fight with bots or, alternatively, with friends on your server.
Perhaps the only good reason to go to the illegal CS2 — to admire the updated graphics, see changes in the maps and new visual effects, for example, smoke from grenades, tracer bullets, and realistic blood splashes.

How to Solve Startup Problems (Part 1)
So, let’s deal with the situation when you installed CS2, but the game does not start. Possible reasons:
Game files have been damaged. Go to Steam, right-click on CS2, select “Properties” → “Local Files” → “Verify Integrity of Game Files”. Damaged files will be re-downloaded.
An old version of Windows may prevent CS2 from starting normally. Update your system.
Outdated DirectX. Download the latest version from Microsoft’s official website.
How to Solve Startup Problems (Part 2)
If the previous methods didn’t help, check for updated versions of Visual C++ and .NET Framework — they are also available on Microsoft’s website.
Your antivirus may conflict with CS2. Either temporarily disable it or add the game to the exceptions list.
The video card may also cause issues — update your drivers. If your hardware is too old, replacement may be required.
Also, CS2 may not start if the folder path includes Cyrillic characters. Rename all folders in the full path using only Latin letters.
What to Do if It Crashes During the Game
You managed to launch CS2, but it crashes during gameplay. Most likely, the problem is in the launch file. Possible causes and fixes:
Use of Cyrillic in folder names — rename them with Latin letters.
Corrupted game files — see “Startup Problems (Part 1)”.
Outdated OS or GPU drivers — update them.
Conflicting mods — remove them one by one to test stability.
Your system may not support high graphics settings — lower texture quality, effects, etc.
Try compatibility mode: right-click on cs2.exe → “Properties” → “Compatibility” → check “Run in compatibility mode”. If it doesn’t work — update Windows.
Solving Other Problems
Another common issue — a black screen. If it appears after launch, the problem may be with the video driver. If it appears during gameplay — update Visual C++.
Sometimes the game doesn’t even install. If you use a pirated version, antivirus software may block installation by deleting code fragments infected with malware. As a result, the files become non-functional. Solution — avoid shady torrents.
